Workshop - Embossing
"an engraved tool, a sculpted paper"
Originating from the earliest communication techniques, embossing is used to enhance the visual and tactile nuances on a paper. This technique goes beyond traditional printing to bring other senses into play, such as touch, and offers an elegant and authentic result.
Embossing consists of deforming the paper by subjecting it to strong pressure between an engraved metal part and a counterpart.
In the case of simple, single-recess embossing, the tool is engraved by removing metal (copper, steel, brass, magnesium) using mechanical or chemical processes; in the case of complex, recessed and raised embossing, the engraving can only be done by hand.
Embossing is an element of personalisation, security and embellishment that is immediately noticeable to the eye.
