"An engraved tool for an inked relief"
Intaglio, like stamping, requires the subject to be engraved on a metal plate (copper). The plate is inked and wiped 3 times before receiving the paper which, crushed between two steel cylinders, will penetrate into the engraving size to fetch the ink.
Once printed, the paper will be smoothed and satin-finished, the inked part creating a slight relief. During quality control, a sheet of silk protects each printed side.
